Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic treatment that supports the natural movement of lymph fluid. It may help reduce swelling, improve lymph flow, and support the body during periods of congestion, fluid retention, or recovery.

At Touch of Care in Zurich, MLD is offered as a calm, carefully adapted treatment for people looking for professional lymphatic therapy in a medical-wellness setting.

Lymphoedema Support

Lymphoedema support with manual lymphatic drainage may be helpful for people living with persistent swelling, heaviness, or lymphatic congestion. The treatment is gentle, precise, and individually adapted to support lymph flow and improve comfort in the affected area.

Where appropriate, lymphoedema care may also include guidance around compression, self-care routines, and regular treatment frequency. Manual lymphatic drainage does not replace medical care, but it may be a valuable part of a broader lymphoedema management plan.

Postoperative Lymphatic Therapy

Postoperative lymphatic therapy is a focused treatment designed to support recovery after aesthetic or medical procedures. It may help reduce swelling, support lymph flow, and improve comfort during the healing phase.

Each session is adapted to your procedure, healing stage, and your surgeon’s instructions. Treatment is gentle and never forceful, with the aim of supporting recovery without irritating sensitive tissue.

Pregnancy and postpartum Lymphatic Therapy

Pregnancy and postpartum lymphatic therapy is a gentle form of manual lymphatic drainage adapted to the changing needs of the body during pregnancy and after birth. It may help support comfort when fluid retention, swollen feet, heavy legs, or mild pregnancy- and postpartum-related swelling become uncomfortable.

Treatment is always carried out with soft, careful techniques and adapted to your stage of pregnancy, recovery after birth, body position, and individual needs. Postpartum sessions are designed to be practical for new mothers, and your baby is welcome to stay with you during the treatment.

Medical approval is recommended where appropriate, especially in high-risk pregnancies, after complicated births, or when swelling appears suddenly.

Regularity matters

Manual lymphatic drainage can be helpful as occasional support, but in many cases regular sessions are more effective than a one-off treatment. This is especially true when swelling, fluid retention, pregnancy-related heaviness, lymphoedema, or postoperative swelling has been present for some time.

The right frequency always depends on your symptoms, your goals, your healing stage, and how your body responds to treatment.

When it may help

Medical lymphatic therapy may be supportive in cases such as:

  • postoperative swelling
  • fluid retention
  • heavy or puffy legs
  • mild lymphatic congestion
  • pregnancy-related swelling
  • swollen feet or ankles during pregnancy
  • lymphoedema support
  • recovery support after selected procedures
  • situations where gentle lymphatic stimulation is recommended
