Lymphatic Drainage During Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings enormous changes to the body — and sometimes that also means swollen legs, heavy feet, fluid retention and the uncomfortable feeling that everything is simply a little more “full” than usual.

Pregnancy lymphatic drainage is a gentle form of manual lymphatic drainage adapted to the changing needs of the pregnant body. Using soft, rhythmic techniques, the treatment supports lymphatic circulation and may help reduce the feeling of heaviness, puffiness and mild pregnancy-related swelling.

The goal is not to push or force the body, but to give it gentle support while it is already doing an extraordinary amount of work.

Gentle support during pregnancy

Each treatment is adapted to your stage of pregnancy, individual needs, comfort, and body position. The techniques remain light and careful throughout the session, with positioning adjusted so that you can rest comfortably.

During pregnancy, the treatment is performed in a comfortable side-lying position. The abdomen is not massaged.

Pregnancy lymphatic therapy may be particularly helpful if you experience:

    • swollen feet or ankles
    • heavy or tired legs
    • mild fluid retention
    • a general feeling of puffiness or tissue tension

Safety comes first

Pregnancy can place additional strain on the heart and kidneys. Therefore, even if manual lymph drainage was suitable for you before pregnancy, this does not automatically mean that it is suitable during pregnancy.

Before booking lymphatic drainage during pregnancy, please consult your doctor, midwife, or medical provider and ask whether this type of treatment is appropriate for your current condition.

This is especially important if you experience

  • sudden, severe, painful, or one-sided swelling,
  • high blood pressure,
  • kidney problems
  • heart-related symptoms
  • or any unusual symptoms.

After birth, manual lymph drainage may support the body during the recovery phase, especially in cases of fluid retention, leg heaviness, or general swelling. Treatment does not replace postpartum medical care or pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Medical approval may also be recommended in high-risk pregnancies or when there are other medical concerns.

If you are unsure whether lymphatic drainage is suitable for you during pregnancy or after birth, please contact me before booking.

Postpartum Lymphatic Drainage

After pregnancy and childbirth, your body does not simply “return to normal” overnight. It needs time, recovery and support while fluid balance, circulation and tissues gradually adjust again.

Postpartum lymphatic drainage may help ease fluid retention, swollen legs, heaviness and the feeling of general puffiness or congestion that can occur in the weeks after birth.

Using soft, rhythmic manual techniques, the treatment supports lymphatic circulation and helps the body move excess fluid more efficiently. Each session is adapted to how you feel, how your recovery is progressing, and whether you have had a vaginal or Caesarean birth.

And you do not have to choose between caring for yourself and staying close to your baby — you are very welcome to bring your baby with you to your appointment.

Following Caesarean birth, complications or significant postpartum swelling, treatment timing is considered individually and medical approval may be recommended.

A Treatment Adapted to You

There is no one-size-fits-all pregnancy or postpartum treatment.

At Touch of Care, every session is adapted to your current stage, symptoms and comfort. The aim is to create a treatment that feels supportive rather than demanding — giving your body space to recover, regulate and feel lighter again.

Whether you are navigating pregnancy-related swelling or adjusting to the weeks after birth, you deserve care too.

Book your pregnancy or postpartum lymphatic drainage session and give your body a little support during this remarkable period of change.
